Shamrock 30" by TMC Pacific Modelworks Item Number: MBTSHM30Shamrock 30" Shamrock has an all-metal construction, with a steel frame and a pine deck built in 1898 by J. Thorneycroft & Co., at Millwall on the Thames near London, England fro owner SirThomas Lipton of the Royal Ulster Yacht Club. It was designed by third-generation Scottish boatbuilder, William Fife III, Jr. Shamrock was also known as Shamrock I to distinguish it from its successors. Shamrock's initial trials was to race against the Valkyrie III, and it has beaten twice the Prince of Wales' royal yacht, Brittania in regattas on the Solent. In the summer of 1899, Shamrock sailed to New York for the America's Cup. Shamrock was beaten thrice in all races by the Cup defender, Columbia.
